How To Arrange Living Room Furniture

From watching your favorite movies and TV shows to entertaining friends, your living room is the place to be. If you need to know how to arrange living room furniture the right way, we have some helpful tips to inspire you. No matter what size your living room is or what style you like best, these tips will ensure that you get the most out of your living space, so you can enjoy a beautiful, functional room.

Make it Symmetrical

As you think about how to arrange living room furniture you should start by finding a good visual balance. Creating symmetry in this space will make it look sophisticated and relaxing at the same time. A pair of matching bookcases against one wall is an easy way to give the living room an evened-out appearance. You should also balance the size of your furniture as well as possible by selecting pieces from the same collection or at least in a similar size. Pair a large sofa with two matching end tables and a loveseat to give the room a balanced aesthetic. Use two wall sconces on either side of your TV to help boost the living room’s symmetrical look.

Mix and Match Smaller Pieces

Another great tip when thinking of how to arrange living room furniture is to find smaller accent pieces to counterbalance your sofa. For example, place your sofa on one side of the room, then add a pair of smaller accent chairs across from it. You can also add smaller pieces throughout the room to fill in empty corners. A nice, upholstered ottoman can easily fill in the gaps while adding extra seating or storage. A small accent table topped with a lamp or sculpture is another great way to fill in those gaps without overtaking the room. The goal is to mix and match furniture and accessories that play nicely off one another for a stylish, functional touch.

Don’t Put Furniture Against the Wall

It used to be common practice to put furniture directly against the wall of the living room. However, today’s modern households use this room more often, especially for entertaining. Instead of butting your sofa and chairs against the wall, pull them closer together toward the center of the room. If you have the space, try to leave at least a few feet between the furniture and your walls. This will create a nice walkway for people to move around, and it forces you to bring the furniture together for a more intimate feel. An exclusion to this rule is an solid wood entertainment center or TV stand. A nice conversation area anchored with an area rug will give your living room a cozy and inviting ambiance that makes it more appealing. Keep these simple tips in mind, and you’ll have a living room arrangement that works well for your lifestyle.
